The ten holy goddesses in Hinduism are known as “Mahavidyas” or “great wisdom science”. Practitioners from the tantrik cult worship the mahavidya for attaining many powers and self realization. The powers of Mahavidya are immense. In the form and shape they are the incarnations of Goddess Parvati, consort of Lord Shiva. And Goddess Bagalamukhi is one of the mahavidya. Indeed they are the true and powerful aspect of feminine cosmic energy.
In northern India, Bagalamukhi is also popular by the name pitambari meaning the Goddess of yellow colour. “Pitambari” is the Hindi name of yellowish golden. She is the giver of riddhi and siddhis (supernatural powers).
According to the religious books of Hinduism, it is believed by many people in India that Devi Bagalamukhi rides upon Bagula Bird which represents wisdom and concentration. Thus the goddess is Goddess of highest focus and wisdom which commands these powers in each individual.
Powers of the Goddess Bagalamukhi
According to the Indian books on Devi Bagalamukhi, it is written that she is the Goddess who has powers to paralyze the enemy’s physical and mental state. She holds power that can destroy the opponent’s mental capability and the enemy suffers paralysis. That is why she is called Shatru buddhi vinashini. Her few names include Devi Mahavidya, Devi Adishakti, Parvati, Sati, Brahmastra Roopini and Shivshakti. If we see from another point of view, the Goddess has the control over senses and mind, thus she controls the mind of evils or harmful forces. So the meaning paralysing is to hold their mind so that the enemy of her devotee can stay safe. She is the destroyer of evil forces by controlling their mind. She ends the disputes, quarrels and enemies.
