Goddess of the Navratri Day Four : Kushmanda कूष्माण्डा
Goddess manifested herself in the fourth form of divinity named Kushmanda. Therefore on the fourth day of navratri we worship Goddess Kushmanda. Devi Kushmanda is known for living inside the sun, so is her appearance. Indeed she is as luminous and bright as sun. She is the one who is nurturing the universe like sun. The universe is the smile of the Goddess.
Kushmanda = Ku + Ushma +Anda. Ku means ‘a little’ ushma is ‘warmth’ and anda is ‘the egg’, here egg is the cosmic egg. Hence Kushmanda means the one who is giving the warmth to the egg, like the mother bird protects and gives warmth to her eggs. However, her little warmth is much sufficient for the creation. She has eight arms, thus also called ashtabhuja devi.
Governing Planet : Sun
Sun is the nurturer, the life, and the essence. The mantra chanting of Devi Kushmanda removes bad effects of sun if one has in his/her horoscope. She nurtures her devotees with her warmth and love. She is the light in the darkness.
